The official prospectus also specifies reservations applicable to different categories and provisions for girl candidates. The exact number of vacancies can vary by admission year and school, so students should check the annual vacancy notification.
📝 RMS CET 2027 Examination
The Common Entrance Test is an important stage of the RMS admission process.
The previous RMS CET was an MCQ-based OMR examination. Candidates who qualify and appear in the relevant merit/shortlist are subsequently called for the interview process. Final selection also involves medical fitness requirements.
Main Preparation Areas
Students should prepare systematically according to the official syllabus and prospectus for their class.
Preparation should include:
- Mathematics
- Intelligence
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs
- English
- Previous examination questions
- Time-bound practice
- Mock examinations
- Revision
- Interview preparation
For the 2026–27 cycle, the official portal noted that for Class 6 merit calculation, English marks were not counted in the merit total; the relevant merit calculation used Intelligence Test, Mathematics and General Knowledge & Current Affairs, subject to minimum qualifying requirements. Students should check the 2027–28 prospectus because rules can change.
🎯 RMS Admission Selection Process
Students should understand that clearing the written examination alone does not automatically guarantee admission.
The previous official process included:
Online Application → RMS CET → Shortlisting/Merit → Interview → Medical Examination → Final Selection/Admission
The official 2026–27 advertisement states that candidates who qualify the CET and figure in the merit list are required to appear for interviews, followed by medical examination for shortlisted candidates.
Therefore, students should prepare for the complete selection process rather than concentrating only on the written examination.
📄 Important Documents
Applicants should keep their documents ready according to the official notification.
The previous RMS prospectus included documents such as:
- Date of Birth proof
- Class V or Class VIII qualification proof, as applicable
- Caste certificate where applicable
- Relevant defence-service documentation for entitled categories
- Killed-in-Action category documentation where applicable
- Other documents specified in the official prospectus
The 2026–27 prospectus specifically lists proof of date of birth, proof of having passed Class V/VIII and applicable caste/category documents.
Always check the 2027–28 document checklist before submitting the application.
🏠 Residential School Admission
Rashtriya Military Schools are fully residential schools. The official prospectus states that admissions are for boarders and that day scholars are not permitted.
Students should therefore understand the residential nature of RMS education before applying.
🎖️ Reservation and Categories
The RMS admission system includes category-wise reservation provisions.
For the 2026–27 cycle, the official prospectus specified:
- 70% for wards of serving/retired JCOs and Other Ranks of Army, Air Force and Navy
- 20% for wards of serving/retired Defence Officers
- 10% for civilians
It also specified applicable Government of India reservation provisions for OBC-NCL, SC and ST candidates, along with provisions for Killed-in-Action wards and girls.
These figures and provisions should be checked against the 2027–28 official prospectus before relying on them for an application.
